Almost three weeks!

 Happy April Fool's Day!

Not much to really report. I've just been sitting here none too patiently counting down the weeks until Phineas is shipped. The last three ahead of me in the waiting room had their dolls shipped on the same day so hopefully I don't have too much longer to wait before I get my shipping notice. :D

Nothing's arrived for him yet, though I did buy a jacket off a friend of mine and I'm not too too worried about him not having clothes. He'll be stealing Riley's wig when he gets here and I have some pants, shoes and a shirt/jacket for him that should technically fit since they're all a little big on her that he can have while he waits for his legit stuff to arrive. I truly cannot wait until he gets here since I've gotten a sewing bug but the only one I want to sew for is him.

To keep my mind off Finny I've been trying to take a few photo's a week for Keledry's Photo Challenge. Last week was Order and Chaos and this past week was Abandonment and Loved. I've got the first two down and I was going to do the next two today but I was called in to work so that'll have to wait until this weekend and I've have four to do. ^^

And I think one of the best things I found out by searching Tumblr yesterday!
A photo of mine had been submitted to FYBJD's without me knowing (which kind of sucks, but I can understand why) and I found it on a Tumblr I frequent. It really kind of made my day yesterday to think that someone liked him enough to submit him there.

So here's hoping that my next post will be Finny's Box Opening! :D

Bees....MY GOD!

So I'm just freaking out a little bit. I just dropped quite a bit of my tax return on buying my boy and some clothes/eyes/shoes for him when he gets here.

Now here comes the scary waiting seeing if it was actually taken or not and the two month wait until Phineas actually comes home.

I know in a few days once everything clears I'll be ecstatic but right now I'm just a ball of worry. ^^;;

Phineas will be from Little Monica
Finny's clothes and eyes will be from Alice's Collections

Uploading and Planning!

It's been quite a while hasn't it! I recently, as in Christmas, finally bought myself a DSLR so I've been taking pictures like crazy.

Crobidoll T-line Berry

I've been mostly taking photo's of Drix recently (having spent two weekends at friend's Leather Shop helping with inventory)

but Booker wiggled his way into a photoshoot two weeks ago. Geez it doesn't feel like it's been that long at all.

I've been hoping the weather would improve so I could take some outdoor shots but it's been rainy, snowy and just down right uncomfortable here for the past month.

----------------------------------------------------------

When I haven't been working or photographing anyone, though, I've been searching for just the right sculpt for a character of mine I've had for about 10 years now. I'd been searching on and off for a while but nothing was sticking and when I did find a sculpt I liked it was either a discontinued one or a Limited when I had no money.

So, like any good responsible adult (hurr hurr) I decided that I'd look extra hard and get him with my tax return. So I doubled my efforts, combing through DoA to find the perfect boy and LO! I've finally found him. Completely by accident too. I needed just the right about of snark and pretty and I found it with Little Monica's Enrill.

I'll be putting the order in Monday or Wednesday at the latest hopefully once my return is deposited on the card.  (-^〇^-) I'm so positively giddy that I can hardly contain myself!

New sweater

I wanted to have more to post but my arm's been acting up and I haven't been able to sew anything. I did get a new tripod though so tomorrow is going to be all about taking photo's and watching the season 7 of Supernatural.

I did however make the hood to a sweater I had made for Ezmethe a while ago. Not that this is the best photo to show it but it's the only one I have of him wearing the sweater.

Hopefully there will be a plethora of better photo's tomorrow night.

sewing sewing

I've gotten back into sewing so Drix has another shirt. I've downloaded a pattern for a slightly oversized hoodie so when my roomate finishes getting the printer hooked up and ready I'll be able to make him his 'default' outfit. Now all I need are

  • his cat ears/tail
  • black(dark brown/gray?)
  • jointed hands
  • new faceup
  • eyes modded slightly bigger
I've already found a pair of eyes that have become his default and he's stealing Ezmethe's wig at the moment just to have something on his head.

Annd here's an extra two head shots just because.

Drix

Just some photo's I can't post anywhere else.

Tutorial

So after trying to make it all pretty, I've pretty much given up. I despise GIMP with a burning passion of a thousand suns and hope it burns in hell.

So I guess I'll just post the photo's and what I usually do underneath it.

What you'll need:
  • measuring tape
  • scissors
  • thread (preferably one that matches your shirt)
  • old shirt/fabric (I enjoy slightly stretchy material but your mileage may very)

First measure from his shoulder to wherever you want his shirt to end. I like mine a little long so I went with 5 1/2 inches. This will be smaller if you're adding a hem but since I was using the hem of the shirt I didn't need to compensate.

Next measure around his waist/chest. I measured this at 3.6 inches wide, but the shirt I ended up making was really tight so I'd suggest going with 4.5/4.6 inches so it can easily slide over pants.

Then I just like to drape it over the doll to get a feel for where it's going to sit.

I usually both pieces together so I can gauge where the arm holes are going to be and I cut a little notch out.

From the bottom of the arm hole to the hem is about 4.6 inches. Once I have the arm hole notches, I sew up the sides with the 'good side' facing each other. I tend to keep my thumb right next to where I want the next stitch to go to get small stitches. It doesn't really matter how neat your stitching is because chances are you're not going to see it anyway, it's just that close stitches gives you a tighter stitch so there aren't any gaps between the fabric.

Once that's done it's time to cut out a neck hole. I usually take my guys' head's off to get shirts on because I think it just looks nicer but if you wanted to you could make the back piece just an inch bigger and cut it down the middle to sew on some velcro. I usually use my thumb as a reference but you could always put the shirt on your doll and snip a little bit where the neck hole is for a better fit.

Once you've got the hole cut out, fold the edge over and hem it. This is where the small stitches really comes in handy if you're using a different thread than that of your fabric. It's time consuming but really worth it.

Once I finish hemming the neck hole, I sew up the top of the arm holes and pop it on whichever doll I'm sewing for so I can see how it looks while it's on.

Then I start on the sleeves and measure from the shoulder down to his wrist/wherever I want the sleeve to end and around his bicep. So it would be 6 inches long and 2.6 wide. If you wanted to be able to fit other shirts under this one, just at and inch or two around.

Once they're cut out, I sew them up. Make sure to leave a little space at the top so you can make a little angled cut so the sleeves fit better into the arm holes. Then I put the arms on to see how they fall and if I need to cut any excess off.

I usually put my arm pieces over my shirt piece and cut the angle that way so it matches each side.

After I cut the angles off I match the sides I've sew with the arm and the sides I've sew with the body and sew up the arm holes. Makes sure you're always checking to see that your fabric stretches right and that it matches up with the point being at the top.

And viola! You've just sewed your very first shirt!
